Pre & Post Care Instructions

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for 4 weeks before treatment. Do not treat sunburned or actively tanned skin.

  • Stop self-tanner at least 1 week before treatment and make sure all residual color is gone.

  • Do not wax, tweeze, thread, or use an epilator for 4 weeks before treatment. Shaving is allowed.

  • Shave the treatment area 12–24 hours before your appointment. Do not leave long hair above the skin.

  • Stop retinoids, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and other irritating/exfoliating products for 3–5 days before treatment on the area being treated.

  • Arrive with the area clean and free of lotion, deodorant, makeup, perfume, oils, or numbing cream unless instructed otherwise.

  • Tell us before treatment if you have started any new medication, especially antibiotics or photosensitizing medication, or if you have had illness, rash, cold sores, open skin, or recent sun exposure.
  • If you have a history of cold sores and the treatment is near the mouth, notify us before your visit.

After Your Appointment

  • Expect mild redness, warmth, or small raised bumps around the follicles for several hours and sometimes up to 24–48 hours.

  • Use a cool compress for 10–15 minutes at a time as needed.

  • Avoid hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, very hot showers, and strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours or until redness and heat have resolved.

  • Avoid retinoids, acids, scrubs, and exfoliating products for 3–5 days after treatment or until the skin feels completely normal.

  • Do not pick, scratch, or aggressively exfoliate the area.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure for 4 weeks after treatment and use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily on exposed areas.

  • You may shave between sessions, but do not wax, tweeze, thread, or epilate.

Results & Healing

  • Treated hairs may look like they are continuing to grow for 1–3 weeks, then begin to shed. This is normal. Do not tweeze, wax or pull them out.
  • Multiple treatments are needed because only hairs in the active growth phase respond at each session.
